On Monday evening, the Aurora CO city council approved a measure to begin investigating nonprofits that help migrants.
We are calling this exactly what it is - a hate fueled and racist campaign against migrants and those who work to assist them.
From bold claims that somehow offer no evidence, to scare tactics with no base, certain Aurora City Officials seem to be using disinformation in order to maintain relevancy.
Our Founder and Executive Director Candice Marley was interviewed by Denver Channel 7 and wants to make it clear that All Souls will remain a safe haven for those that need assistance. We supply food, clothing, and basic necessities to those in need.
Our Deputy Chief of Staff has written this open letter to Denver City Officials calling for the open denoucement of this investigation.
Let this be a reminder to all Americans that inscribed on our Statue of Liberty is the following quote:
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”
This quote was taken from the poem The New Colossus and was written by immigrant Emma Lazurus in 1883. It depicts the statue as The Mother of Exiles.
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
We are a country built by immigrants. We cannot fall victim to hate speech and misinformation. And we won't let incendiary comments take away our focus from where it should be - helping those that need us most.
